Modulo Fence Block Mix Recipe
REQUIRED MATERIALS
1. Mix composition:
- 8 liters of water;
- 2 buckets (10 liters each) of marble aggregate;
- 1 bucket (10 liters) of white cement (we recommend Holcim Blanco Plus);
- 1 bucket (10 liters) of marble powder;
- sodium silicate (water glass) (we recommend Sika).
WARNING! The mix composition is intended for one full concrete mixer batch, not for a single mold!
2. Reinforcement:
- 8 mm ribbed steel bars.
- Standard concrete (cement, water, gravel, sand).
3. Cleaning:
- water;
- white vinegar.
PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Mold preparation:
- wash the molds with water and make sure they are clean;
2. Material preparation:
- mix 8 liters of water with 100 ml of sodium silicate in a plastic container. Warning! Do not wash yourself with this water!
- place the treated water, marble aggregate, cement, and marble powder into the concrete mixer and mix thoroughly.
- with the mold placed in its support, pour the prepared mixture into different areas of the mold until it is three-quarters full;
- manually vibrate the mold to distribute the material evenly and remove any trapped air bubbles.
- fill the mold with the remaining material until it is completely full and vibrate again until the surface is level.
- cover the molds with plastic foil. This keeps the moisture inside the mold and prevents the concrete block from cracking.
- allow the block to dry completely for 24/48/72 hours, depending on the outside temperature: 24 hours in summer, 48 hours in spring/autumn, and 72 hours in winter (indoors if the room is unheated).
- once fully cured, gently pull the edges of the mold away from the sides of the block to loosen it.
- place a plywood board (OSB or phenolic plywood) underneath, carefully turn the mold over onto the board, and remove the mold.
- remove any flash left on the edges of the block using sandpaper.
- leave the block to continue drying in a horizontal position until it is completely dry.
CLEANING
Fill the molds with water and white vinegar, then use a soft sponge to remove all residue.
INSTALLATION
1. Ground preparation
- dig a foundation trench (20-30 cm deep, depending on the height of the wall).
- pour plain concrete into the foundation and level it.
2. The first row (the most important!)
- place the blocks on the cured foundation.
- check each block with a spirit level. If the first row is not perfectly level, the entire wall will be uneven.
3. The following rows
- install the blocks in an offset "LEGO-style" pattern (similar to brickwork).
- the special grooves in the blocks ensure proper alignment and secure fitting.
- pour concrete into the vertical cavity and insert ribbed steel bars into the grooves for additional strength.
4. Finishing
- finish the top row using cap blocks.
- paint the wall with exterior masonry paint.
