Cross Mix Recipe
REQUIRED MATERIALS
1. Mold support:
- wooden boards;
2. Mix composition:
- 8 liters of water;
- 2 buckets (10 liters each) of marble aggregate;
- 1 bucket (10 liters) of white cement (we recommend Holcim Blanco Plus);
- 1 bucket (10 liters) of marble powder;
- sodium silicate (water glass).
3. Reinforcement:
- 8 mm wire mesh (cut to the shape of the cross) or 8 mm ribbed steel bars.
4. Cleaning:
- water;
- white vinegar.
BUILDING THE MOLD SUPPORT
- Fasten the wooden boards together with wood screws, cut to the dimensions of the mold, as shown in the image:
PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Mold preparation:
- wash the mold with water and make sure it is clean;
2. Material preparation:
- mix 8 liters of water with 100 ml of sodium silicate in a plastic container. Warning! Do not wash yourself with this water!
- place the treated water, marble aggregate, cement, and marble powder into the concrete mixer and mix thoroughly.
- with the mold placed in its support, pour the prepared mixture into different areas of the mold until it is three-quarters full;
- gently shake the mold to distribute the material evenly, then place the reinforcement inside.
- fill the mold with the remaining material until it is completely full and shake it again until the surface is level.
- cover the mold with plastic foil. This keeps the moisture inside the mold and prevents the cross from cracking.
- allow it to dry completely for 24/48/72 hours, depending on the outside temperature: 24 hours in summer, 48 hours in spring/autumn, and 72 hours in winter (indoors if the room is unheated).
- once fully cured, to demold the cross, place 3-4 wooden boards on the ground, position the support next to them, and carefully turn it over onto the boards. Then gently lift the support and the mold.
- leave the cross to continue drying in a horizontal position until it is completely dry.
CLEANING
Fill the molds with water and white vinegar, then use a soft sponge to remove all residue.
GRINDING / FINISHING
Once the cross is completely dry, polish it using a grinding disc suitable for marble, terrazzo, or concrete. For inscriptions, you can use a stencil and spray paint, or place a custom engraved marble plaque into the mold before casting.
